With Decay, Godflesh return with an intensely dark record that continues the band's long exploration of pain, alienation and existential heaviness. Created from the same sessions that produced Purge, Decay brings together six tracks that reveal another side of the material recorded during that prolific period. While Purge established its own direction, the songs that didn't fit that album were deliberately held back, eventually becoming the foundation for this release.

The result is a record that feels heavier, darker and more adventurous, while remaining unmistakably Godflesh. At the heart of Decay is the collaboration between mastermind Justin Broadrick and longtime bassist Ben Green. Together, they create a sound built from industrial rhythms, distorted guitars, hypnotic repetition and a deeply oppressive atmosphere. The album's six songs unfold with a deliberate sense of weight. The middle section pulses with extended, hateful grooves, while the opening track “Master and Slave” and closing track “Consume Me” form what Broadrick considers the conceptual core of the record. Their slow, viscous character establishes the bleak emotional landscape that defines Decay.
