Anathema - The Silent Enigma (30th Anniversary Limited Edition Marble Vinyl) LP
With The Silent Enigma, Anathema delivered one of the most important and emotionally resonant albums of the 1990s doom metal movement. Originally released in the summer of 1995, the band’s second studio album marked a decisive turning point, not only for Anathema themselves, but for the evolution of atmospheric and gothic metal as a whole.
As part of the legendary Peaceville 3, alongside Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, Anathema helped define a generation of British doom metal. The Silent Enigma was the first album to feature Vincent Cavanagh on lead vocals, replacing the late Darren White. Where White’s approach was raw and guttural, Vincent introduced a far more expressive and emotionally expansive vocal style, opening the door to the band’s future evolution into more melodic, progressive and rock-oriented territories.
Musically, the album blends crushing doom riffs, ethereal atmospheres and deeply melancholic melodies, drawing clear inspiration from pioneers such as Celtic Frost while forging a sound entirely its own. Tracks like “Restless Oblivion”, “Sunset of Age”, “The Silent Enigma” and “A Dying Wish” have become enduring genre classics, praised for their emotional depth and haunting intensity.
This 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Marble Vinyl reissue celebrates a cornerstone release in Anathema’s discography and a timeless gothic doom masterpiece that continues to resonate with fans and collectors alike.
